New TaylorMade SIM Line Officially Unveiled

January 6, 2020

TaylorMade’s latest club line has been teased for a couple weeks now, including a December 12th post on Instagram giving away a “Mystery Driver”.

More teasers and actual photographs started to leak for the new SIM driver, including showing up in PGA Tour pro Dustin Johnson’s bag for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Still lacking an official press release, TaylorMade once again posted a fairly teaser-heavy video to Instagram and YouTube on January 2nd that showed off not only the 9-degree driver, but the new SIM irons as well.

Having already showed up on the USGA Conforming Club list update from 12/30/2019, details and low quality pictures of the clubs were widely available, even if release dates and pricing was not.

This morning, TaylorMade sent out the press release with higher quality photos, details and release dates for the majority of the line. So what makes the SIM line new and different? The press release states:

With an asymmetric sole design and enhanced Inertia Generator, SIM drivers rely on geometry to unlock the next frontier of performance. A series of shape-inspired innovations work in unison to improve forgiveness while also increasing aerodynamics and clubhead speed at the most critical stage of the swing – the last three feet (one meter) of the swing prior to impact.

This makes sense why they added a video of them testing the driver in a wind tunnel to their Instagram stories, though little other explanation was given at the time. The SIM line, or Shape in Motion, will come in SIM, SIM Max and SIM Max•D variations. The SIM driver has an adjustable weight, while the Max has an 8% larger face than the SIM, and the Max•D an 18% larger face.
